Scenes and animals from the story:

Rocky volcanic coast where Ju Ju and the red cardinal landed after their long journey to the Galapagos Islands.

Ignacio’s family: a crowd of marine iguanas sunning themselves on volcanic rock.

Marine iguanas might look scary but they’re just vegetarians who love eating seaweed!

Can you find the marine iguanas? They are very
well-camouflaged against the volcanic rock where they hang out.

Sally lightfoot crab.

green sea turtle.

The sea lions on the Galapagos Islands are not afraid of people!

Blue-footed boobies.

Flamingos in their lagoon on Isabela Island.

The giant crater of the Sierra Negra volcano of Isabela Island.

Galapagos penguins.

Who was Ju Ju the box turtle?

Julia, the author, had a pet box turtle while growing up, named Maxine. Maxine was the inspiration behind Ju Ju's character.
